Mary Lou Belli is the coauthor of The Sitcom Career Book, published by Back Stage Books. An Emmy Award–winning director, she has worked on Girlfriends, The Hughleys, Major Dad, and Charles in Charge, among many other shows. She is the mother of two children who act professionally. She lives in Los Angeles.

Dinah Lenney is an adjunct professor at UCLA's School of Theater, Film, and Television. An actor as well as an acting teacher, she is currently appearing on ER as the no-nonsense nurse Shirley. She lives in Los Angeles.

This is a GREAT book!

This book is a fantastic investment for anyone with any interest in acting. Whether you're an experienced actor or one just starting out, this is a GREAT book--so good, after just one chapter of it, I felt like I had been taking acting classes for years. Written with young adults in mind, this book shows what it means to act and all the things you need to know to become a good actor in a way that is both simple and sophisticated, so it's appropriate for any age. It's a book that you can easily pick up and just read a part of when you need help (but it is fun to read all the way through!) I've learned so much from this book and I can't wait to put it all to use!

Great Book, But..........

This is a great book; it goes in great detail about security in all aspects of the computer industry. However it lacks one critical aspect, how do I do that? Like all network and computer professionals, I do not know everything, so when you tell me I should do something a certain way I'd hope that you will also tell me how to do it. With this book I found myself saying, maybe they will tell me what to do later, over and over, never happens. If you want to buy a book that's a reference manual, this is the one to get. If you are looking for a "how to" as well as a "what to look for" book, consider looking elsewhere.

Picked it up for Sec+ now, GSEC later

This was a decent book on security. I actually picked this book up to provide additional material for the Security+ (which was very easy by the way) and to provide something to help me self study for GSEC in the coming months. I found this book to be very useful for both cert and non cert study. It can be a little dry at times but that is to be expected.

All in one almost

Extremely well structured book. A reference anyone should have indeed if you are a honnete homme with some interest in your times. Of course, professionals and want-to-be will find good data and explanation. The technological aspects could start earlier in the book. But frankly this is not easy to make such a book and the outcome is a masterpiece.

Lame shortcut, However good information

An extremely informative series (Biology of plants versions) well written and in depth. They ruined it with the 7th edition however, by putting two chapters( the ones on ecology) on the internet. So the book, even though it says it's 800 and some pages, actually is thinner than the old 6th version. Our teacher couldn't believe they had done this, as this was part of the curriculum. So, not only would we have to pay about $120 for this book, but also have to print about 100 pages.... That's a sick way to make more money out of books, i'm tired of book companies screwing students just to make some more money. I returned the 7th edition and got the 6th edition, which has basically the same information and ALL the chapters included in the book!

I don't like being this harsh, because i absolutely love the information this book has. Reading it has added another dimension to my understanding of plants. The Ecology chapters missing in the 7th edition are awesome reads, however and probably contain the best real world information that students should have. As such, i have to praise the 6th edition for it has changed my life for the better!!! :)

Way too general

Even though many teachers recommend this book, its information is way too general for a serious botany course. For example, if you want information on about Division Anthocerotophyta, you'll only find about 5 paragraphs. It is a good book for general doubts, but once you want deeper knowledge, I would really recommend Bold's Morphology of Plants and Fungi. Don't be tacken aback by its publication date (1987): it is still the most used and reverenced book on the subject. It's the Bible of botanists (just like the Alberts for Molecular Biologists), and it will come in handy whenever you study algae or fungi also.

Fascinating and a surprisingly easy read given the complex subject matter

Very well written book that is approachable to non-scientists even as it discusses such complex topics as evolutionary biology and paleoanthropology. The author raises very interesting points about the potential for evolutionary change as a result of modern technology varying from C sections and IVF to the rise of online dating. As genome mapping and analysis continue to progress, it should provide for further topics that I hope Mr. Solomon will explore in future books. Recommended for non-scientists and scientists alike.

Up-close photos and instructive diagrams illuminate each step, from preparing and cutting the timbers to the thrill of raising day.

About the Author
Will Beemer is a founding member of the Timber Framers Guild�and served as Co-Executive Director for 11 years. He’s been a builder for over 40 years and an educator in the building trades for 30 of those. With his wife, Michele, he owns and operates the Heartwood School for the Homebuilding Crafts in Washington, Massachusetts, which has been teaching courses in timber framing, home building and other trades since 1978. Beemer has taught timber framing around the world, including in Patagonia (with Rocky Mountain Workshops), at Palomar College in California, at North House Folk School in Minnesota, and through numerous Guild workshops and projects. He has authored many articles on basic and advanced timber framing techniques and is a regular contributor to Timber Framing (the quarterly journal of the Guild) and�Fine Homebuilding�and has also written for Wood Design & Building and Joiner’s Quarterly.

Jack A. Sobon is a self-employed architect and builder of timber-framed structures. He holds a bachelor of architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of design and has worked on barn moving and restoration. Together with Roger Schroeder, Sobon co-wrote Build a Classic Timber-Framed House, which is now in its twelfth printing, with nearly 50,000 copies in print.

Really fabulous and easy to understand

What a very easy to understand and well illustrated book on building a timber frame. I am but a humble woman, with a little experience in woodwork, but I marvel at the workmanship that is explained in this book - no easy screw and nail joins here, but proper mortise, tenons, dovetail and other joins. This building is a work of art, and will probably withstand whatever weather is thrown at it. It is lovely to see craftsmanship such as this passed on to the next generation - yes it takes longer, yes it requires patience but the end result is fabulous.
This book was supplied to me in return for a honest and unbiased review.

Beautiful and well written.

This was a really excellent book. I liked that it went into all the necessary detail to construct a small timber framed building and even provided variations on the base model for additional space or other considerations (such as storage for a large tractor).

The approach to the book is very straightforward and I found all the diagrams helpful in describing some of the complexities of the craft.

It was also nice to learn about different approaches to timber framing, most specifically "square rule", and how that works. It was also helpful to learn about the alternatives and to understand why they adopt the square rule approach in this book.

Overall it is a beautiful well written book well worth the money. I would recommend it.

A must read for every architectural office

Edith Cherry provides a very comprehensive overview of a subject that tends to be overlooked or neglected by many individuals in the architectural field. This is a must read for every architectural office regardless of office size or scale of work. Understanding and implementing Programming is an essential component in the architectural process that can not be overlooked.

Essential for the UNESCO-UIA's architectural education

In July 2002, UIA agreed to promote their criteria on Architectural Education, worldwide. Among various criteria, we can clearly find necessity of teaching the architectural programming in school. With understanding this situation, I can recommend this as the BEST TEXT BOOK among others in this field,
compulsory for students and educator.
