About the Author
Takerra Allen is the author of the Thicker than Water series, Restricted, (There's Power in the) V, and of the 2010 African American Literary Award nominated hit novel, Heaven's Hell. In addition to being an author, she is the proud daughter of former Black Panther William Garland and half-sister to the late, renowned Tupac Shakur. She has been featured in publications such as XXL Magazine and Don Diva Magazine, featured twice in the Top 10 Urban Books Listing. Although Takerra has been approached for ghostwriting offers as well as publishing offers from some of the top names in urban fiction, she has opted to remain focused on the goal of building her own publishing house with her business partner, Sandra Mobley. Takerra and Sandra have launched Angelic Script Publishing to give new edgy writers a chance to demonstrate their talent and to give readers and lovers of Contemporary Fiction, new and exciting books to fall in love with. Writing continues to be Takerra's first love however, and her work has been appraised by many veteran African-American writers. She was born in Jersey City, NJ and resides in Somerset, NJ. The Bell Sisters grew up in Jersey City as the hottest commodity on the block. Valerie, Vickie and Veronica...when their names were spoken all hailed to the might of their vividly, vivacious beauty, bods and brains. Valerie, the oldest, had a game plan that consisted of her becoming rich, successful and she was not going to be deterred by anyone, not even the local D-Boy that she secretly vibed on. Middle child, Vickie, was always the boldest and feistiest sister, staked her claim at 14 on her future husband. Reaching adulthood, Val has accomplished all of her goals, wealthy - check, successful - check, married to an attorney - check...but life checked into her life and crushed her fantasy with a bitter pill. Vickie is still running things her way, three beautiful daughters, a loving husband, a satisfying life...while pain is etched in her life with one small imperfection that haunts her each day. Veronica is still mild but she just wants acceptance of the kind of love she seeks.
There's Power In The V is an emotionally, captivating, powerful portrayal into the lives of a family bonded by love, loyalty, pride, devotion, and brutal honesty. When childhood transcends time and adulthood enters the picture...and with that comes the introduction to heartbreaking, mind boggling, life draining hard knocks that dishes out unfairness. Sexual abuse, death, adultery, addictions, betrayal, and deceit all surface and rears a vicious, vindictive face. Will this family, can these sisters attain a victory and prove that there is mos def `power in the v'...that is the question. I'd like to vibrantly applaud Takerra on an outstanding job! This was one of the most engaging, enthralling, and enchanting reads that I have EVER read! I laughed, I smiled, I chuckled, I gasped, I closed my eyes, my stomach hurt, my heart ached, I teared up, and I sobbed...all of these sentiments evolved with each new revelation of this electrifying plot. Takerra, baby girl, your versatile glow gets brighter and brighter as you exemplify your spectacular skills! Kudo's, Kudo's, Kudo's to you! Brilliant!!!!

Family....

Ms. Allen has penned a story of three sisters dealing with life issues that is so vivid that I could see the movie running in my head.
Valerie the older sister deals with depression from a freak accident that she can't forgive herself for. She is in a marriage with an insensitive man for image purposes only.
Vickie is the middle outspoken sister with the man of her dreams and three beautiful daughters. She is the go to one of the other sisters and gives honest and sound advice. She is devastated by a well kept secret and her world spirals out of control.
Veronica is the youngest of the Bell girls that falls in love with the wrong person and because of what she felt in her heart she pays the consequences.
Each of these sisters are supported by the matriarch of the family Verna. A God fearing woman that does not bite her tongue when advising her daughters.
There's Power in the V touched on so many issues that happen in REAL everyday life of family's...issues that are touched on and swept the rug and not addressed.
This is a tastefully well written story. If you have never experienced a Takerra Allen adventure then you should get this and her other work. In the short time since Ms. Allen's first published story I have seen growth in her style of writing and the expansion of her story lines.
If your life doesn't include God and family you have nothing.If your library doesn't include work by Takerra Allen...you have nothing.

Takerra has done it again

Takerra has done it again. This has to be her best work yet. You can really tell she has grown as an author and has made her way on to my favorite authors list.
There's Power in the V is the story of the three Bell sisters.
Val the oldest seems to be all put together but deep dpwn she is hiding a secret that controls her everyday life.
Vickie the middle child has it all. She has the perfect husband and the perfect kids but a secrets and lies threaten to ruin her happy family.
Veronica aka Ronnie is the baby of the family. She is the biggest heart and just wants to find love. But sometimes love doesn't always end well.
This is a must read book.
