A Useful Guide to Applied Self-Hypnosis

The book arrived promptly and in very good condition. I bought this book to replace several that I have given away. I liked Lecron's book because the methods for inducing hypnosis and most of the applications were clearly explained; the ones that I tried worked for me. I found post-hypnotic suggestion a particularly useful tool. Some of the successful applications were the use of hypnosis to reduce my extreme fear of flying, to be able to sleep and wake up refreshed in a different time zone, or to prepare for a business briefing. I have also used it for enhanced concentration. The psychology in some instances is antiquated and possibly offensive to some, however one must take into account the period and attitudes of the time it was written. I am sure there are a number of good, if not better sources on the subject, but this one was adequate for my immediate needs.

This IS the one you're looking for.

I bought my copy of LeCron's _Self-Hypnotism_ when I was a sophomore in college, back in the late 1970s. It has become dog-eared over the years since, and the binding is starting to come loose, but it is one of my most treasured reference books, and I own a LOT of reference books. This book was old and dated when I bought it, but even when I pick it up today and read through it, I realize that it sticks to certain fundamental concepts and truths that it will likely always have value.
This was the first book I ever bought on hypnosis or self-hypnosis. I've added several more volumes on this topic over the subsequent years, some of which are quite good, but I keep coming back to LeCron because of his easy, down-to-earth and comfortable writing style, his practical approach, and his useful applications. I have used his examples and techniques to successfully overcome a number of personal difficulties. I'm a musician and stage fright has always been a problem for me. I used his techniques to overcome it and to build confidence in my playing ability. It helped me to stop smoking. When working through a mountain of material I needed to assimilate for my Master's thesis, I turned my subconscious loose on the problem before turning in for the night, giving myself the suggestion that my subconscious would find what I was looking for. It worked while I slept and came up with an insightful and unique theory, which became the foundation for my Thesis. While not strictly self-hypnosis, it was because of what I learned of the workings of the subconscious mind from this book that gave me the idea to do this. I've even used his pendulum technique during exams. I recall asking my physics professor if he minded if I used a pendulum for an upcoming mid-term. Not only did he not mind, he encouraged me to do so, and even took a moment out from his lecture to mention the technique to the class and the theory behind it -- namely that the subconscious mind likely already knows the answers and using the pendulum was one successful technique at getting to the truth. I was not the only student who used a pendulum for that mid-term. :) I scored high on it, too, and I've made occasional use of this technique ever since.
My attitude toward LeCron and the topic of self-hypnosis is, "What have you got to lose?" Nothing. The book is cheap, it's a rather slender volume that reads easily, so it's something that can be knocked off in a weekend, and the techniques certainly can do no harm, but can only help. Once you've had a taste of success with this book, you'll want more and it will provide you with the foundation to achieve your goals. To me, LeCron is a must read. Pure and simple.

One of the best books of its kind....

One of my favorite books from decades ago. I think this is the beset book written on hypnosis that I have been able to discover. I have used it to quit smoking forty years ago. Through the years I have used it on less stubborn problems but it has become an effective tool in my arsenal of self-help techniques. I recommend the book highly.
