the christian myth with a black face

Its the usual syncretizing here. Paul Boyd, goes from being objectively historical, to subjectively dogmatic by pg 100 up, preposing that the Christian belief of a Jesus christ is some how valid, despite any proof from sources outside of the christian world before and after. He goes on to assert that the creators of the Egyptian philosophy were polytheistic and paganistic, which shows that he doesn't know much about the Egyptian (KMT) symbolism or world philosophy.

There is a big difference between a Priest Artisans intent and a outside commoners interpretation, because different Egyptians paid homage to certain deities or more, does not mean that they did not recognize a supreme source, quite the contrary, Amen is representative of the Supreme source as the unseen or underlying cause of all manifested deities, deities representing the attributes of the source. But, one must channel through the deities for communication as all Africans didn't believe you could contact the source personally but had to go through It's mediums, which is the same as christians communicating to their god through the medium jesus. Something that Mr.Boyd is obviously not aware of, but forcibly makes a big deal about a Jesus being black when a lot of Semetic's didn't identify with their black side as they still don't, so, no need for an epiphany moment.

But, getting back on track, Mr. Boyd shows the influence of African spirituality in view of the African consensus influencing Europeans and Middle Easterners, and so on, but, somehow he goes into left field as to authenticate the bibles literature in relation to all African spirituality, by giving the unproven account of a jesus christ as the manifestation over and behind all African spiritual philosophy.

Being over zealous can create the illusion of superiority, inwhich all religions or spiritual philosophies, contain the truth in so far that it can be translated objectively as legit and 100% accurate across the board. Which, in Mr. Boyd's case, he fails to accomplish.

For example: he acknowledges, that Yoruba knows a supreme being and yet fails to see that the Orisa is identical to the KMT(Egyptians) neter, which is nothing more than the outward expressions of the Supreme(Self) in relation to relative experiencing, giving account to the KMT being much older than the Yoruba system, the similarities is just a matter of what costume the True Self will be wearing for each occasion, as it has already been proven that the Yoruba Ancestors the Nok, or enough of them, were descendants of KMT or at least, adopted by contact, KMT costumes. This is why there are so many similarities between the two, see: terra cotta pottery making and so on.

On closing, my rejection of this book is not on the grounds of how one will interpret the True Self(God), but on the grounds of one showing selective favoritism as to legitimize what they have accepted as the truth, and yet cannot verify objectively, such is the case of a jesus or yeshua existing in the way that christian fundies claim. There has been many accounts of Shamans through out history in Africa and abroad, healing people, but none ever claim that it was through a jesus of the Israelites that they work. God can't be define to favoritism of one group, all things in the Universe is the begotten of the so-called God.

Really ppl, if we need to alter what the Truth represents, then it is pointless to argue against who's side is more truer, especially when one ignores the principles of perception for their own selfish means, stop believing and start perceiving. nuff said!

About the Author
Richard "Dick" James is a Crader Professor of Counseling at the University of Memphis. He is a licensed psychologist and licensed professional counselor. He also is a Nationally Certified School Counselor. He is currently coordinator of psychological assessment at the University of Memphis Center for Rehabilitation and teaches graduate classes in crisis intervention, theories of counseling, and school counseling at the University of Memphis. He trains police officers for crisis intervention with the mentally ill and consults on crisis intervention planning and techniques with schools, agencies, and businesses.

A Valuable Text

Far and away one of the best social work/counseling texts I've read. Cover to cover. James somewhat neglects the role of spirituality in counseling dynamics, but this is true of most such texts, unfortunately. Overall, however, this is an excellent (and highly readable) text. I enjoyed this textbook because it gave examples of conversations between a crisis worker and an individual in crisis. The information in the book was informative, had many references to state, federal, and national organizations, and related to real-life situations. I do wish the actual interventions were easier to find in the book. Like, "here's the 6-step intervention and these are the steps". I think the 6-step intervention was actually the one intervention that was spelled out like that. The others were kind of mixed in with the chapter and had to be piecemealed together.

Football Supporters and the Commercialisation of Football explores the implications of this uncertainty for understanding supporter resistance to, and compromise with, commodification. In this respect, this book offers a Euro-wide comparison of supporter reactions to commercialisation and provides unique insight into how football supporters actively mediate regional, local and national contexts, as they intersect with the universalistic presumptions of commerce.

This Book Brings Clarity to Spiritual Weaponry to Fend Off Evil

In this book, Dr. Vost takes his expertise of the human mind and unites it with the timeless truths of Thomas Aquinas’ work in order to help the reader form a psychological army to battle against sin. By pitting vice against virtue, he joins faith and reason to do war against evil on the battlefields of both the mind and the soul.

“Although I am certainly unable to advise anyone from the perspective of one who has conquered these sins himself, I do stand ready to point you to the strategies and arm you with some of the weapons that great saints have devised to assist us in our relentless struggles against sin, toward virtue, and ultimately, toward union with God” (p.83).

The first part of the book goes back to the early Church and creates a symmetrical consensus of just what the deadly sins are. Vost’s research of the historical and etymological interpretations of the names for each of the seven deadly, or capital, sins is exhaustive and complete.

He then dissects each of the seven deadly sins with the literary scalpel of what St. John Climacus penned as the “six steps” in the process of our movement toward sin, namely:

Provocation (when something first enters our mind and we instantly unite it with our hearts)
Coupling (when we begin to converse with ourselves about what the thing means)
Assent (the delighted yielding of the soul to the thing that has just entered)
Captivity (a forcible and unwilling abduction of the heart from the thing we have encountered)
Struggle (the internal battle between the thing encountered and the person’s desire for pleasure)
Passion (when the soul looses its battle and begins to pursue more of the thing encountered with intent to sin)
Each vice is played out through these six steps and for every hypothetical, almost socratic confrontation, you’ll find yourself revisiting your own journeys toward the darkness of your past sins, recalling the moments that you became shackled by you own passions. In a very real way, the author makes you see the enemy’s plan and precisely how you fell into the traps that Satan had set for you.

But it doesn’t end there. After identifying the enemy’s tactics, Dr. Vost shows how you can defend yourself from its clutches and free yourself from sinful temptation through your will and consequently, you're intellect. Since the author is well trained in the field of psychology, he delves into the human mind and paints a masterpiece for the reader in which the protagonist is man's reason triumphing over the antagonist of sin and the misplaced passion of man that accompanies it. Joining his own knowledge of modern psychology with the spiritual insights of the Angelic Doctor, St. Thomas Aquinas, the reader is not only broken free from the chains of sin, but he is poised and prepared to destroy the enemy when he comes again.

I will keep this book on my shelf forever. It will serve as my go-to resource for a thorough, Thomistic examination of conscience during those moments when I know I am in need of a good confession.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking clarity in their lives but are unable to grasp it due to the confusion and disenchantment that sin has brought upon them.

Excellent follow-up to "One-Minute Aquinas"

The Seven Deadly Sins is Dr. Kevin Vost's followup book to One-Minute Aquinas. The book begins with a brief introduction of the world's deadliest sins, and the author gives his reasoning for using a Thomistic approach with regards to this book. The book is then divided into two parts - "The Ancient Family History of the Seven Deadly Sins" and "Battle Plans to Decimate Deadly Vice and Sin." The first part is very interesting, because it contains Scriptural references to the seven deadly sins as well as references from ancient Christians including Evagrius Ponticus; St. John Cassian; Prudentius; St. John Climacus; Pope St. Gregory the Great; and, of course, St. Thomas Aquinas. (Side note: If you haven't read St. John Climacus' Ladder of Divine Ascent, you really should!) At the end of this first section is a helpful chart that organizes all the information you previously read. I really appreciated the fact that Dr. Vost pulled from both Eastern and Western traditions for this section.

As interesting as it is to read about the seven deadly sins, it is worthless if we don't have a strategy on how to defeat them. That is what makes Part Two of this book extremely useful. Drawing from St. John Climacus and St. Thomas Aquinas, Dr. Vost devotes develops a mini-ladder in the Prologue to Part Two. It consists of seven "simple" steps defeating the seven deadly sins. It is as follows: 1. Examination of conscience, 2. Embrace the sacraments, 3. Learn what leads us to sin, 4. Practice prayer, 5. Cultivate virtue, 6. Immerse ourselves in the world of the spirit, and 7. Imitate Christ. He then devotes a more detailed chapter to defeating each sin.

When comparing this book to its predecessor, one notices some similarities and differences. The most obvious similarity is the covers of the book. If you are ever going to write a series of books, it's CRUCIAL that the books look like they belong together. The other similarity is the number of charts and tables in both books. These are helpful, because they condense what you just read and has a better chance of making the material stick. The biggest difference I noticed was the lack of the "Dumb Ox Box" in this book. In the first book, these boxes were littered throughout the book and provided asides and a bit of humor. Honestly, I didn't miss these, as sin is no laughing matter. Dr. Vost continues to make the Angelic Doctor accessible to the masses, and I look forward to seeing future books in this series. If you are looking to start reading St. Thomas Aquinas, then you definitely want to pick up both this book and One-Minute Aquinas.

Love this cookbook

This book is great for anyone learning how to cook or even people who have been cooking for a while. Its very neat and the pictures are great. All the recipes include pictures from the start of the meal to the end. Ms. Hornby also took the time to show all the ingredients and what it would look like for the homecook. Most of the ingredients can be found in the supermarket or farmer's market. The recipes are economical and thats great in a cookbook. Here is a list of how the book is set up

Introduction:
Tips on how to make recipes work for you. Basic kitchen equipment like knives, roasting pan and food processor. Next is ingredients, shopping tips and basic pantry.

Breakfast & Brunch:
Smoothies, cinnamon rolls, eggs( eggs benedict and scrambled eggs), muffins, french toast, huevos rancheros, pancakes and corncakes.

Light Lunches:
Ham Cheese Sandwich, warm goat cheese salad, spicy vegetable soup, couscous& harissa salad, warm goat cheese& beet salad, chicken caesar salad, chicken &corn quesadilias, BLT sandwich and shrimp & mushroom laksa.

Simple Suppers:
Chicken stir-fry, mushroom risotto, thai curry with beef, lamb chops and mint salad, cheeseburgers, breaded fish and tartar sauce, macaroni& cheese, sausage and mashed potatoes with onion gravy, stuffed chicken with tomatoes and arugula, shrimp pad thai, cajun chicken and pineapple salsa and penne with tomato/olive sauce.

I did my best to list most of the dishes. I did not list them all. I just wanted to give everyone an idea of whats in the book. This book is great for family and friends. This cookbook is great for any level of the homecook. I am glad I have this book and I will continue to make more of the dishes. Last night I made the spicy vegetable soup. Tonight I made for dessert the key lime pie. I cant wait until its ready.

Clear, concise, clever and well organized.

I saw this book, in, of all places, URBAN OUTFITTERS.

This is a new, delightfully laid-out and easily understandable cookbook which proceeds on the assumption that everyone is new to cooking.
I have not seen a book like this one, where each step of a recipe is photographed. For example, with Coq au Vin, there are photos showing the vegetables, then the slicing, then the chicken, when to put the wine in, etc.

The calm and articulate prose that accompanies the recipes is noteworthy for its gentle but authoritative ability to reassure the cook.

It's true that the internet has made recipe finding easy. But a book like "What to Cook and How to Cook It" is something one will have for years, and is as essential to a kitchen as salt, knives, butter and water.

Well thought out, simple to use. Fantastic!

I cannot recommend this book enough. I love cooking but I have a hard time following many recipies in other cook books and from websites. The reason is that I am quite a visual person. I need to see what the dish should look like when you are finished. This book does that but it also takes it a number of steps further.

Every recipe is laid out from start to finish with a picture for each step. Even the ingredients are shown in their measurments to make it easier for you to see where to begin. The book also has a picture of the dish at critical points in the preparation so you can see how it should look.

The recipes are easy to follow and are not overly complicated. The recipes are also all based around food that everyone loves. Things like Chicken Pot Pie, Coc au Vin, chicken wings, BBQ ribs.

This book is great for anyone who is new to cooking and even intermediate cooks who like that visual style cookbook.

About the Author

A veteran of fifteen years of assignments within the SR-71 community, Colonel Richard H. Graham is uniquely qualified to tell the Blackbird's story. Crew member, instructor pilot, chief of the standardization/evaluation division, Colonel Graham was named SR-71 Squadron Commander, 1st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, in January 1981. A command pilot with more than 4,600 military flying hours, he has earned military decorations and awards including the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with three oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with eighteen oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with "V" device and one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Combat Readiness Medal with one oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four service stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Colonel Graham's books on the SR-71 include SR-71 Revealed: The Inside Story and SR-71 Blackbird: Stories, Tales and Legends. He lives in Plano, Texas.

Very interesting facts and stories not well packaged

In this case I have to side with the (currently) most helpful critical review by Mr. Aa Whatley, in that this is a potentially excellent story that put simply wasn't told in an engaging way. Col. Graham evidently is well suited to know all that is to know about the Blackbird (or Habu as he would probably prefer) and its operational career, but his writing skills are unfortunately at a very different level. The use of an aviation-versed co-author probably would have helped significantly in order to turn this collection of very interesting facts and stories into an engaging book.

Simply flying the Habu clearly was a skill owned by very few highly gifted aviators, and even fewer were able to successfully fly the demanding operations very close to (and probably more than a few times inside) enemy territory in this unarmed aircraft. The technical challenges and solutions developed in the late 50s and early 60s are staggering and clearly pushed the very edge of the envelop at that time for flying operations. The capabilities that the Blackbird was able to consistently reproduce on every flight are still unmatched today, in the era of UAVs and much improved satellites. And let's face it, this aircraft has like few others a special charm and flair!

With this highly interesting material, the reader should expect a lot of technical content, coupled with some gripping flying stories. While they are there in this book, they get lost among the rather awkward structure of the book and the extremely dry narrative. A much better example (and with much more technical information) is Lockheed Blackbird: Beyond the Secret Missions (General Aviation), if you can get a copy. Hopefully some farseeing editor in the future will undertake the task of finding a suitable co-author and get Col. Graham to rewrite this book.

My favorite air plane in the world

My favorite air plane in the world.....I regret, greatly, and personally that the plane was taken out of service, and the actual air frames were mounted for display, the oil and fuel, very special products, ceased to be produced, and there were no mechanics who knew enough about this amazing craft, so they could remain flyable....if the US government says something is too expensive to continue, it must be REALLY expensive, so taking the plane out of service was a money saving device, considering we now have satellites that can do the same mission as the SR71, but I want to see it fly again, as it was such a special airplane.
